What inspired you to study massage?
I was at a stage in my career where I wasn’t happy with my current job and we had an amazing opportunity to live overseas with my husbands’ work. While we were living in Malaysia and I was receiving a lot of massages, more so than usual, I thought to myself I would love to make other people feel this good after receiving a massage, so I decided to study massage on our return to Australia. I love the flexibility being a Massage Therapist has, having a 6 year old means I can attend school carnivals and be there to pick him up after school, which really means a lot to me.
How did you find studying with Evolve?
I was a little worried about studying again as it had been almost 10 years since I last did any form of study. I found the course layout incredibly well planned. I started studying via correspondence which I thought may have been a struggle but I found the whole course very interesting and was keen to learn more and keep moving forward to the next subject.
I contacted a friend who had studied through Evolve and after looking at other colleges and her positive recommendations I found Evolve to suit my needs for flexibility.
Initially a correspondence student in Darwin, I changed to on-campus study for my provider status and attended my on-campus classes when I visited family in Sydney. I found the teacher to be a wealth of knowledge and went above and beyond to keep us aware and in tune with our bodies in everyday life and while we were practicing. I found when I rang the college there was endless positive support for my needs, the course has prepared me for everything I have encountered in my business and I still enjoy reading the Well Being News Articles.
What is most notable or rewarding about my practice of massage?
I started with my business from home and now I have branched out and also rent a room in the CBD within a Physio Clinic with other Remedial Massage Therapists.
The most rewarding aspect of being a massage therapist is spending a minute with a client following the treatment and observing the difference from when they initially walked in. They are more connected to themselves and seem to have a greater awareness for how their body feels, it’s very satisfying.
